According to a statement, six units responded to the 11:52 a.m. alarm, with the first unit arriving at noon at the Paahana Street home to find smoke coming from an attic vent.
The cause was a faulty vent fan and wiring.
The fire was quickly extinguished. The homeowners, an elderly couple, got out of the house safely.
The fire was reportedly under control at 12:05 p.m. and extinguished by 12:13 p.m.
The estimated loss was $5,000, with almost $200,000 in property value saved, fire officials said.
